Fruit plant breadfruit, (Artocarpus altilis), tree of the mulberry family (Moraceae) and its large fruits that are a staple food of the South Pacific and other tropical areas. The fruits are great source of carbohydrate and it has low fat. Since the fruit can be steamed, fried, baked, roasted and fried,they can be eaten at all stages of growth. Although breadfruits are rich in carbohydrates, but they are substituted partially for wheat flour in many products such as snacks, pastries and bread.
Artocarpus altilis is a suitable crop for the hot, humid, tropical lowlands areas.
